Persian Bidjar rugs originate from the Kurdish town of Bidjar in northwestern Iran and are famed for their remarkable durability and tight weave. Known as the “Iron Rugs of Persia,” Bidjars are constructed using a wet-weft technique that compresses the wool for an exceptionally dense and heavy pile. Design-wise, they often feature central medallions, intricate borders, and repeating field patterns such as the Herati—a timeless motif composed of diamond shapes surrounded by floral elements and curled leaves. Their lasting structure and detailed artistry make Bidjar rugs a favorite among collectors and decorators alike.
